Search Underway for 3 People Involved in Old Saybrook Boating Accident

Emergency crews are currently conducting a search and rescue operation for three people who went missing after a boating accident in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.

The accident occurred near the mouth of the Connecticut River around 8:30 pm on Saturday evening. According to witnesses, a small boat carrying four people capsized in rough waters.

One person was rescued by a nearby boater and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The three other occupants of the boat are still unaccounted for.

Coast Guard and local authorities are actively searching for the missing individuals.

The Coast Guard has dispatched a helicopter and several boats to assist in the search. Local fire and police departments are also involved in the operation.

The search is currently focused on the area where the boat capsized, as well as the surrounding shoreline.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is investigating the cause of the accident. According to a DEEP spokesperson, the boat was not equipped with a kill switch, which is a safety device that stops the engine if the operator falls overboard.

The DEEP is also investigating whether the boat was overloaded or if the operator was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The search is expected to continue throughout the night.

The Coast Guard and local authorities are expected to continue searching for the missing individuals throughout the night. The search will resume at first light on Sunday morning.

The families of the missing individuals are being kept informed of the search efforts.
