Hugh Freeze to Earn $65 Million as Auburn's New Head Coach
Auburn Athletics Official Confirms Salary
Auburn Athletics has confirmed that Hugh Freeze, the newly appointed head coach of the Tigers, will receive a base salary of $65 million over the six years of his contract.
Freeze's Previous Salary and Contract
Prior to joining Auburn, Freeze coached at Ole Miss from 2012 to 2016. He signed a four-year contract with an annual salary of $15 million, with potential incentives pushing it up to $25 million. However, his salary was later reported to have reached $47 million, making him the highest-paid state employee at the time.
Freeze's New Contract and Compensation
Freeze's contract at Auburn is reported to be for six years, with an average salary of $65 million per year. This places him among the highest-paid coaches in the Group of Five, a group of college football conferences below the Power Five conferences. ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Freeze's new contract will be for eight seasons.
Despite not being in a Power Five conference, Freeze's salary puts him in the top five highest-paid non-Power Five head coaches in college football.
